Guest speaker 5 Apr 2016: Cathy Koning – Soprano Dorothy Rudder

Dorothy Rudder's suitcase 002-2

Like opening Pandora’s box, when Cathy Koning of Pyalong opened a battered old suitcase little did she realize the journey this would take her on.

The case belonged to Dorothy Rudder, a great aunt of Cathy’s husband, and contained a treasure trove of unpublished and rare theatre items, WWI and historic memorabilia including shipboard menus, programs, letters, autographs, flyers and make up.

Cathy set out to discover the hidden story behind these items and the life of Dorothy Rudder a Sydney soprano and versatile performer who appeared in pantomime, revue, vaudeville, opera and operetta. She even performed at Covent Garden in London.

Such an amazing life deserves to be better known and Cathy has completed Dorothy’s biography – entitled “Dainty Diva”,

So join us in hearing Cathy’s tale of this interesting Australian woman.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 and end at approximately 9 – 9:30, with time for questions and general business.

Supper will be served after the meeting and all are welcome to participate.

All members and non-members are welcome to attend.
