  2. Hi we’re looking for any photos or information on Samual Lucas and son George Smith Lucas please? They owned the brick factory! Margaret Marchbank was his wife. They had a daughter Lydia (apparently 3 daughters???) who is my great great grandmother. She has a daughter Jean Margaret McDonald!

    1. Hi Kristy
Yes we are aware that Samuel was a brickmaker in Kilmore around 1860 to 1880. WE do have a research file on a Lucas family but from home I cant tell if it is your fLucas family. I had a look in our three local history books and none had a Lucas in the index. I doubt we have a photo of the family. We have Kilmore rate books information for the period 1863 to 1875 and I would expect the name Lucas will appear in this index. Also we have other records that may help, such as headstone transcriptions for our two cemeteries..

At this time of isolation our rooms at the old Kilmore Courthouse are closed so it is difficult to do much research. Also much will depend on how much you know already, such as details of birth, dearth and marriage entries. You can find details about our research service on our website page at

    1. Hi Craig, the only crest I know of is for the Kilmore Shire Council of 1856 – you can see this in B&W on page 53 of the book Kilmore – Those that came before, by Heather Knight 2007. Kilmore Shire is the only shire within our area of interest. I suggest you contact the Mitchell Shire Council at https://www.mitchellshire.vic.gov.au and/or the Public Record Office of Victoria. We may hold old documents that have the crest on them, but that would mean a search resulting in a research fee. – Grahame Thom – Vice President

  5. Hello
I just found your website. I am seeking any information or images of a relative on my mother’s side of a Reverend Timothy Ulick O’Sullivan who was a priest in Kilmore until he died there in 1928. I’d appreciate any help or pointers you could assist with. Thanks – its a great website!

    1. Hi Lorraine – Thank you for your enquiry, we do not hold a photo of Rev O’Sullivan. I also contacted a senior member of the RC Kilmore Parish and he advised the Parish would not have a photo. Our local newspaper, the Free Press, did not, at that time, include photos in the newspaper. Perhaps you could check with the local history societies in the areas where he was previously posted. Regards Grahame Thom VP
