  1. Hello, I am a relative of John Bourke Ryan, he died in a car crash in Kew in 1926-27, my mother was his only daughter, she was only 18 months old at the time, her mother my grandmother was norene Lavina, the same name as my mother,
Mum has now passed away, and I would dearly love to have a photograph of my grandfather, and to see if I had any cousins,
How would I go about trying to trace, the family, that may be still living, I do have records of births deaths etc, but not of the living family,
can you help, my name is Jan lovell/willett, (Phone number removed by admin)
    thankyou if you can help.

    1. Hi Jan

I am the Society’s research officer, sorry about delay in responding. Finding a living relative is a challenge. The best way is to advertise as much as possible, such as what you are doing now online. Also your situation is made more difficult as Ryan is a “common” name. Talk to all your known relatives. John Bourke Ryan was buried in Fawkner Cemetery in April 1928, search the site below. His death certificate should tell you the names of his children, This may make your search easier. Go to your local public library and borrow a family history book on researching in Australia.

  2. Any info on James Greenough (alias Green) who is believed to have travelled from Yass as an assigned convict to Capt John Murchison around 1840 would be welcome. He had a Ticket of Leave for Kilmore district in 1840

    1. Hi Rod

Thanks for contacting us. The three published histories of Kilmore & District make no mention of James. Capt Murchinson is not even mentioned. It is just too early. In fact Kilmore was not even named till 1841 at the time of the survey of the town. Your best chance is probably the early Victorian newspapers on Trove.
