KILMORE HISTORICAL SOCIETY GENERAL MEETING
TUESDAY 8 NOVEMBER 2016

In keeping with its excellent program of guest speakers at General Meetings, the Kilmore Historical Society is pleased to welcome Allan Wilson to its next meeting on Tuesday 8th November at 7.30 pm in the Kilmore Courthouse.

Allan is a descendant of George Wilson who purchased land from The Crown at Darraweit Guim in 1857. He subsequently acquired all the land east of Deep Creek and No 3 Creek at Darraweit and called the property initially Rutherglen. It was changed to Ruglen because of confusion with the town of Rutherglen in northern Victoria.

He is also descended from Cornelius and Mary Ann Francis who built the Darraweit Guim store in 1864. Mary Ann continued to run the store for 47 years after the drowning of her husband in Deep Creek in 1870.

Allan, who currently lives in Shepparton, has published the early history of the Wilson family “The George Wilsons of Darraweit Guim”.

Everyone is welcome to the meeting which is our last general meeting for 2016. Supper will be served following the meeting.

Note that this is the second Tuesday in the month – altered because of the Melbourne Cup Day public holiday.
