Mitchell shire Monument Hill Consultation

Mitchell Shire Council is currently seeking community input for its Monument Hill Reserve Management Plan. This project of course includes many aspects other than the heritage status of the Monument itself, but our members may be interested in having their say on the status of the Monument itself – or on any other areas that interest them.

Details on the consultation are available on the website at :

A draft plan will be available for public comment at a later date.

History’s Mystery – Unidentified Group

This photograph of a group of people is in the Society’s collection. There is a name of the back of the picture – A.G. Portbury – who is known to have been Kilmore based, so the assumption is that the picture was taken locally.

The dress of the participants suggests a date of the years immediately before the First World War.

The setting cannot be identified as Kilmore. The curved creek suggests it may have been taken on the ‘Island’ at Broadford, but this not conclusive.

Can any of our members or visitors shed more light on this gathering?
