DEAD MEN DO TELL TALES!
A WALK THROUGH WALLAN WALLAN CEMETERY
To celebrate History Week (16-23 October) the Kilmore Historical Society is conducting a walking tour through the Wallan General Cemetery, Queen Street, Wallan, on Saturday 22nd October at 1.30 pm.
The first burial in the cemetery took place in 1858 so there are many headstones that date back to the 1860s – and each has a story to tell of families long gone.
Names such as Budd, Sinclair, Laffan, McLeod, Sutherland, McNaughton and many more are synonymous with the history of this once small hamlet on the Sydney Road.
Everyone is welcome; no charge for members and a $5 charge for non members.
Please dress appropriately for the weather – it may be winter and it may be spring! Suitable footwear, hat or beanie, and maybe sunglasses.
Remember to respect the fact that there are many unmarked graves in the Cemetery as well as those marked by headstones.
